Modafinil (Provigil, Modalert, Modapro) is used to help people who have narcolepsy to stay awake during the day. Modafinil increases wakefulness and daytime alertness in people who experience excessive sleepiness during the day, either due to narcolepsy, or due to a syndrome called obstructive sleep
apnoea. It can also be used to improve wakefulness and alertness in people who suffer moderate to severe sleep disorders as a result of chronic shift work. However, the medicine should not be used as a replacement for sleep and you should talk to your doctor about ways to try and maintain good sleep patterns.
Modafinil (Provigil, Modalert, Modapro) described as a "wakefulness promoting
agent". It is sometimes prescribed off-label for ADD/ADHD.
Modafinil is the drug for improving 'alertness' and reducing 'excessive daytime sleepiness'. Modafinil is indicated in the treatment of narcolepsy, obstructive sleep
apnea/hypopnea and shift work sleep disorder. In some countries, it is also approved for idiopathic
hypersomnia. Modafinil is widely used off-label to supress the need for sleep. It is also used off-label in combatting general fatigue unrelated to lack of sleep, in treating ADHD, and as an adjunct to antidepressants (particularly in individuals with significant residual fatigue).
Modafinil is more commonly known and prescribed as Provigil. With a doctor's prescription, you can buy modafinil with different commercial trade names: Modalert,
Modapro, Provigil (USA), Vigicer (Canada), Sparlon, Alertec. Modalert is the cheapest ones. |
